Acoustic Guitar Instrumentalist / Violinist/Fiddler/Recording Artist / Folksinger-songwriter and Interpreter of Vintage Folk Rock
Spencer Lewis is an acoustic guitar instrumentalist, violinist/fiddler and a folk-singer-songwriter. His 22 CD catalog has sold over 130,000 copies making him one of the most successful independent recording artists in the country.
Lewis possesses a signature sound that combines his inimitable cross-flat picking acoustic guitar style with the sustained elegance of the violin. Often played together in live performance, Lewis employs the latest looping technology to overdub his solo guitar parts with both the violin and the guitar as he successfully recreates the music from his vast repertoire of original music.
As an original folksinger-songwriter vintage folk-rock interpreter he alternates between the confessional and spiritual while also drawing from a vast repertoire of old-time, folk-rock, and the obscure and unheralded singer-songwriters from the '60's and '70's.
His two latest releases are the all instrumental folk-rock impressionist CD Vermont Resurrection and Unbounded, Lewis’ tribute album to one of the pioneers of the singer-songwriter movement: Eric Andersen.
A partial list of artists Lewis covers includes:
Eric Andersen
Leonard Cohen
Kristofferson
Mickey Newbury
David Blue
Gene Clark (Byrds)
Neil Young
Phil Och’s
Dylan
"Unbounded is Lewis’ nod to an important influence in his career. If you didn’t know the songs were composed by Eric Andersen you might think Lewis had composed them, they fit well with the songs he has composed over the years.
Lewis sees Andersen’s work as ‘a poetic way to say things…we look for grace in our words.’
Fans of Eric Andersen and Spencer Lewis will enjoy this sincere, well-recorded album."
