Music and Stonework
Sometimes we create art in the most unpretentious of ways. In this case, Dan was a witness to the spring rains that filled the Stickney Brook near his home in Southern Vermont and took a simple video that captured the beauty and intensity of the moment. On a rainy morning, he sent it to me with little prompting except to share in the inspiration, while knowing I create musical vignettes.
I then went to my recording studio and searched for a short piece of music that might complement the story. I recalled how I mixed a song a few weeks earlier, having to choose between one of two endings. I also mixed the tail end of the unused portion for posterity, knowing it normally might not find the light of day. It was like reaching for, and finding the ‘next stone’. So it is with music, and stonework.
